Diffusion Panel
Build a soft source with front and side controls.
Start with a source#
Choose + Light → Diffusion Panel, then select the layer. Its source shines onto a virtual diffusion screen. This is a procedural light appearance used in the HDR environment; it is not a separate 3D area light in the model scene.
Refine the appearance#
- Choose a polygon or spot source.
- Adjust source width, depth, position and rotation in the front view.
- Use distance and tilt in the side view to change the spread across the screen.
- Adjust spread, diffusion and falloff to soften the source.
- Use surface fade and the light's own Edge Softness to refine the boundary.
The source preview helps distinguish changes to the emitting source from changes to the whole light's position on HDR Canvas. For an off-center highlight, move the source within the panel before rotating the entire light around the environment.
Compare and reuse#
Save a lighting variation in My Looks before making a strong change. Use Light Magic's audition workflow to compare procedural appearances on a selected light, then apply the result you prefer.
Older projects may use the internal name scrim. The current customer-facing name is Diffusion Panel. Existing files remain compatible.
