Scene Settings and resets

Understand which controls affect your lighting and how to restore defaults.

Lighting and display are different#

Global Exposure changes the combined environment lighting and is baked into HDR/EXR exports. The wider header control and the top-navigation controls in full-screen HDR Canvas and Render Preview all edit this same value as Scene Settings. Move the slider or enter an EV value from −6 to +6; the other controls follow immediately. Lighting Undo/Redo restores the same shared value. Mass Actions exposure instead adjusts the selected lights individually. Output Filters and their Reflection Filter change the output panorama when enabled.

Tone Mapping, Bloom, Lens Flare, Glare and the other preview effects change the displayed Render Preview and its snapshots. They do not change the exported environment. The available sections depend on Usage Mode.

Open the sections you need#

Scene Settings starts with collapsed sections. Use the single Expand All / Collapse All control beside the panel menu to open or close them together. It is hidden when the entire panel is collapsed.

Reset one section#

Use the reset icon in a section heading. It restores that section's factory values. If you are viewing that effect's isolated diagnostic pass, resetting it returns the pass to Beauty. An unrelated diagnostic pass is left alone.

Output Filters includes Reflection Direction. Reset Output Filters restores the whole output-filter block, including reflection controls.

Reset all Scene Settings#

Use the reset icon in the Scene Settings panel header. This restores all its sub-panel settings, including settings hidden by Usage Mode. Use the confirmation toast's Undo action to reverse that reset while it remains available.

The reset preserves light layers, groups, Environment, Ambient, imported assets, workspace arrangement and device preferences. It does not create a new lighting scene. Use New Blank Lighting Setup if that is your intention.

Factory values#

Factory defaults lists the values used by the reset system. Reset means the application's defaults; saving a custom factory-default profile is not currently provided. Your .lumen project stores its own applicable settings independently.

Legacy lighting#

Older projects and some rigs or conversion results can carry a separate Environment or Ambient contribution. Legacy lighting appears here only when those values or assets are present. Its controls preserve the existing lighting; new lighting uses HDRi Environment, Gradient or Flat Color layers in Light Stack. Reset All Scene Settings preserves both ordinary layers and legacy lighting. See Environments and fill lighting.

Focus one section#

Use Focus section above the settings list to show one existing category. All sections restores your previous expansion state. This is a workspace view choice; it does not reset lighting or rendering values.

Model reference preferences#

Studio menu → Preferences → Models stores a device preference for millimeters, centimeters, meters, inches or feet, plus a tolerance of 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 or 1. Defaults are millimeters and 0.01. Changes save immediately; units and tolerance are reference preferences and do not rescale existing geometry.

These are reference preferences for model workflows in this release. Imported source coordinates, existing geometry dimensions and Rhino meshing tolerance are unchanged; this is not a unit-conversion or remeshing command. New Blank Project resets document settings while preserving these device preferences.

The header Exposure input contains a compact EV suffix and remains synchronized with Global Exposure.

Resetting Dynamic Ground or all Scene Settings first asks for confirmation if Dynamic Ground is enabled in Geometry Tree. Cancel leaves the scene unchanged. Export Preview settings are shared between the Scene Settings sub-panel and preview panel dialog; they are session export choices and are not reset with scene rendering settings.

Focused controls and compact forms#

The reset beside Focus section resets all sections when All sections is chosen, or only the selected section. The panel-wide reset and collapse-all actions appear only for All sections. A focused section shows its controls without a duplicate section heading, collapse arrow or ending divider. Focus choices include icons.

Render Canvas is the first section. Export Preview, Export Scene and Export Animation share the same forms as their menu dialogs. Fields and switches use compact rows with a protected gap between label and value. Output Filters presents Motion Direction as a label/dropdown row and Reflection Direction directly, with relevant dependent controls.

Orbit Control and Drag Options#

Orbit Control lets you enable orbit, pan and zoom separately, adjust their speeds and damping, zoom toward the cursor, pan along the ground, or keep the camera above the horizon. Transform gestures keep priority over orbit.

Drag Options controls the next model you open or drop: center it, normalize its size, and choose the longest dimension in preview units. Turn normalization off to preserve source scale. These choices are recorded with the imported model; changing the defaults does not resize an existing model.

Progressive Shadows refines the existing Shadow Only Dynamic Ground. Pivot Control, in Advance mode, changes the transformation anchor. Each module has a scoped reset. See ground controls and object transforms.

Scene controls and device Preferences#

The main-menu Preferences dialog contains device settings in six icon tabs: Workspace, Grid, Selection, Performance, Models and 3D Engine. Changes apply and save immediately, and the last active tab is remembered. Drag the heading or unused space to move the window while inspecting the preview. These tabs are not dockable. Scene Settings continues to contain project-specific camera, image, lighting and export controls.

Render Canvas, Model Animation, Anti-aliasing and Edge Rounding have independent reset scopes. Resetting Model Animation cannot change image dimensions or the scene background. Camera Animation is a separate workspace panel; Reset All Scene Settings preserves its saved views and playback settings. Delete camera views from that panel. Reset All still includes the Dynamic Ground confirmation where needed. The Focus section dropdown exposes the same order as the panel.

Gem Environment#

Project-specific gemstone lighting lives in Scene Settings → Gem Environment, including the HDR/EXR preview and slider/value controls. Turn Use Gem Environment off to hide those controls and use scene lighting; the uploaded file is retained.

Preferences → 3D Engine shows the loaded Three.js revision above the module information.

Background and quality controls#

Background has its own section and reset for the selected mode, visibility, background-only intensity, color, gradient and template selection. Reset retains imported files. Render Canvas includes the preview frame limit. Anti-aliasing includes Temporal accumulation, jitter, motion feedback, sharpening and gemstone motion controls. These settings participate in section reset, Reset All and Undo. See background and gradient creation.

Gem preview and comparison#

Click the panorama/upload card or Load gem HDR / EXR to choose a file. The full-width 2:1 preview updates with HDR intensity, gamma, XYZ rotation, UV scale and offsets, and stays pinned while scrolling that section. Preview adjustments compares the adjusted panorama with the original; it does not disable the lighting adjustments in Render Preview. Camera lock controls the lighting’s relationship to the camera, so it has no separate change to this standalone panorama view.

Reset gem transforms & tone restores intensity, gamma, rotation, scale and offsets while retaining the uploaded file, Use Gem Environment and camera lock. The section reset retains its existing broader reset behavior. The preview is tone mapped and bounded to 384 × 192 pixels to keep slider feedback lightweight; lighting continues to use the decoded HDR data.

Copy and transfer settings#

Open the Scene Settings panel menu for Copy Settings and Paste Settings. When Focus section is Camera, the commands become Copy Camera and Paste Camera and affect only that section. A complete settings copy can also be pasted into one focused section.

Export Scene Settings… saves an encrypted .lsettings archive containing JSON settings and binary background/gem images. Import Scene Settings… applies that archive to the current project. The server’s encryption key must match the one used at export. Settings archives do not contain model geometry, Light Stack layers, export passwords or destination-folder permissions. Use the confirmation toast’s Undo to reverse the settings application.

Anti-aliasing, Edge Rounding, Export Preview, Export Animation, Export Scene and Render Canvas each have a reset icon in their heading. Render Canvas reset also restores its frame limit and device pixel ratio choice.

Settings sections use a consistent inset before their first control. Tabbed popups keep their tab strip fixed above scrolling content; ordinary dialogs retain their normal content padding. Right-click panel menus use the Studio gold border.
