Export HDRi

Choose formats, multiple resolutions and excluded-layer behavior.

Choose format and size#

Every time you open Export HDRi, Radiance HDR, 1K and Ignore Excluded Lights: on are preselected. Change them for the current export as needed. Choose Radiance HDR or OpenEXR using the format radio controls. Select one or more resolutions. Export Selected renders each chosen size and presents explicit download links; multiple outputs are also available as a ZIP.

ResolutionPixel dimensions
1K1024 × 512
2K2048 × 1024
4K4096 × 2048
8K8192 × 4096; available with Output Filters disabled

Enabled Output Filters currently limit export to 4K. Multiple sizes are rendered sequentially to control memory use. Cancel Remaining stops pending work; completed files remain available.

Export always evaluates the full scene, including while a Composite local canvas is open.

Excluded lights#

Ignore Excluded Lights is on by default. With it on, layers marked Exclude in Render Preview are omitted from export as well. Turn it off to include those layers. A light disabled with its visibility control is still disabled; this toggle does not enable hidden lights.

What the export contains#

The result is a 2:1 equirectangular environment. HDR uses linear sRGB / Rec.709; EXR offers linear sRGB or ACEScg output with matching chromaticities. Global Exposure and enabled Output Filters are baked in. Original imported image assets are used for the output resolution.

The preview model, ground, camera, display tone mapping, bloom, lens flare, glare and other Render Preview effects are excluded. Export Preview is the separate operation for a displayed model image.

Precision and compatibility#

Choose 32-bit float EXR to retain radiance above 65,504. 16-bit half uses less space and caps values at 65,504. Radiance HDR uses RGBE, saturates at its finite format limit, and has no alpha channel.

Sampling offers Draft (1), Production (4), and Fine detail (16) samples per pixel. More samples reduce aliasing at small lights and sharp edges but take longer; arbitrarily sub-pixel lights can still need a larger output size.

Enable Transparent background for EXR alpha. Disable full-canvas fill/environment lights and any legacy lighting to leave uncovered pixels transparent. RGB is associated (premultiplied) with coverage alpha. Use Preserve destination alpha on a light to restrict changes to existing coverage. Alpha inspection on HDR Canvas displays the same coverage. This is a single RGBA panorama, not a multilayer render-pass export.

Image layers can explicitly interpret source RGB as decoded linear sRGB or ACEScg. The working space remains linear sRGB and display tone mapping stays separate. Built-in ACEScg conversion is not a custom OCIO configuration or an ACES working-space pipeline. The model preview uses half-float textures; export is authoritative for values above the preview range.

Keep a .lumen file alongside final exports when you need to edit the setup later. An exported environment alone does not contain the original light definitions.

Read export choices#

Radiance HDR shows Sampling. OpenEXR also shows Output color space and EXR precision. These dropdowns reserve a stable width for their longest option, so choosing Fine detail, Linear sRGB / Rec.709 or 16-bit half does not truncate the label or shift the form. On a narrow screen the label stacks above the dropdown and the value can wrap. Transparent background uses compact spacing alongside the other export controls.

Recognize exported files#

File names include resolution and a short settings suffix. The ZIP uses the same settings suffix.

ExampleMeaning
Studio-1k-s4.hdrRadiance HDR, 1K, 4 samples
Studio-2k-lin-s16-f32.exrOpenEXR, 2K, linear sRGB / Rec.709, 16 samples, 32-bit float
Studio-1k-acescg-s4-h16.exrOpenEXR, 1K, ACEScg, 4 samples, 16-bit half

s1, s4 and s16 identify sampling; lin and acescg identify EXR color space; h16 and f32 identify EXR precision. Names describe the settings captured when the batch started.

Open Export HDRi#

Use the leftmost Export HDRi action in the HDR Canvas heading, with its yellow download icon, or Studio menu → Export HDRi. The main application header no longer repeats this action. Export settings and output behavior are unchanged.

The unified production and development release keeps Export HDRi in the HDR Canvas heading and the Studio menu. The main application header has no duplicate export button.
