Troubleshooting and known limits

Recover a useful workspace and report a problem clearly.

A control is missing#

Check Studio menu → Preferences → Workspace → Usage Mode, save any change, then expand the relevant panel and section. With multiple lights selected, Light Properties becomes Mass Actions; select one row or choose Edit one light to return to individual properties. Some controls depend on the selected light, material, placement tool or full-screen state. Roughness is intentionally hidden for Original Materials. See feature availability.

Horizontal scrolling appeared#

The editor preserves minimum usable panel widths. Additional side-by-side portrait columns require additional width. Stack them vertically, reduce Interface Zoom, or use Studio menu → Reset Workspace Layout. The Help Center itself adapts to smaller screens.

A panel is outside the workspace#

Try its menu → Float Back to Studio or Studio menu → Reset Workspace Layout. For an external panel window, allow pop-ups for the studio. If it remains on Preparing Panel, use Retry or Return to Studio.

The preview differs from the export#

Check whether you changed Global Exposure or Display Exposure. Check preview exclusion and Export HDRi's Ignore Excluded Lights. HDR Canvas can show reference layers excluded from the model. Preview effects, display transforms, model materials and the ground do not become exported lighting.

Import or opening failed#

For models, use a self-contained GLB, glTF, OBJ or STL within the import limit. For .lumen, keep the original backup; do not overwrite it with an incomplete recovery. Read the error and check that embedded assets are present. A loading overlay should finish before the new result is shown.

Page could not load or GPU context failed#

A browser-level “page couldn't load” screen can come from a network, hosting, browser or graphics failure; it does not identify one specific cause. Reload once. If the editor is available, save a .lumen backup before further recovery. Check the connection, try a supported current desktop browser and record any visible error.

Work disappeared after changing devices#

Local autosave is browser-specific. Open your downloaded .lumen backup on the other device. Current versions do not offer cloud project synchronization.

Send a useful issue report#

Record the date, browser and operating system, Usage Mode, Interface Zoom, performance preference, reproduction steps, expected result and actual result. Include a screenshot and the smallest non-sensitive example that reproduces it. Do not include passwords or private project assets without permission to share them. Share the report through your existing HDRi Studio support contact; this page does not submit a ticket.

Current boundaries#

No DCC plugins, path-traced GI, caustics, external OCIO configuration, team accounts or cloud autosave are included. Photographic background recovery and screen-space effects are approximations. Future plans are not documented as released features.

Composite or channel problems#

If an export exceeds the 128 MB Composite intermediate budget, reduce resolution, parent size or nesting. Missing channel-image errors require restoring the original file. An unavailable Merge or Release operation indicates incompatible blends, locks or parent edits; see Composites.

For a dark Diamond material, confirm the scene environment is connected and contains bright light sources. Use a closed convex cut; ordinary glass, open surfaces and concave meshes are not interchangeable with a faceted stone. See Diamond material limits.
